Milk Shakes, Movies, and Nachos at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant

One of our absolute favorite restaurants to visit is Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant in Hollywood Studios. This was a favorite for me as a kid and has stuck with me since. I love that they also have great vegan options to add to the fun atmosphere here.

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant takes you back in time to a drive-in movie. On the big screen you’ll see trailers for classic sci-fi films while dining in the light of your car. Each car seats two people per row and each car has three rows. They do also have a few classic tables around, but 95% of this restaurant features the dining cars.

To start your meal here they have Sci-Fi Impossible Nachos. I was actually just going to get these as my meal but ended up wanting to try the entree here again as well. The nachos come topped with taco seasoned Impossible beef with black beans, pico de gallo, avocado cream, and cilantro.

The chips are house made fried tortillas and offer a great crunch. They hold up well for all the Impossible beef on it as well. The cilantro cream adds a nice tang and creaminess like a cheese sauce would. There was also plenty of pico de gallo to get with each bite. As I mentioned before, this can absolutely be enough food to be a meal if you prefer.

For our entree they have the Flying Saucer Impossible Burger. This burger has changed a bit since I last had it, but in general was still the same. The Impossible burger is topped with a portobello mushroom, vegan cheese, lettuce, tomato, garlic-tomato aioli, and pesto. Previously it was a cashew cheese, but on this visit it was just a half a slice of vegan cheese.

This is pretty hard to eat due to the toppings. The portobello (on top) and tomato (on the very bottom) make it very slippery so it is one of those burgers where once you start eating it you can’t put it down due to it falling apart.

If I’m being honest I would rather have just the Impossible patty or just the portobello. The two of these between the bun is a lot. The pesto is also a odd burger condiment for me, but I really enjoy the aioli. I would just get the nachos as my entree next time though as this burger was just okay.

We were able to get a kids Impossible Burger as well. This is not on the menu and was a special request. It comes plain, no vegan cheese or anything. But our son enjoyed it and the thick cut fries.

No trip to Sci-Fi is complete without a vegan milk shake. They do have an actual dessert option called the Cookie Shake which has vegan and gluten free cookies and a coconut whipped cream. However, we opted for just a vanilla and oreo shake. You can get those at any time and don’t have to wait until dessert.

A delicious vegan milkshake topped with crushed cookies and a cherry, served in a classic ice cream cup with a striped straw.

I was told that the vanilla based shakes here are now using KLIMON, which is a pea protein non-dairy soft serve mix. Because of this we got our shakes incredibly fast as they had them ready to go and just didn’t have to put the dairy whipped cream on them. Our shakes were delicious and I ended up taking the rest of mine to go so I didn’t waste it.

This is a great restaurant if you’re looking to do the Fantasmic! Dining Package or just have a legitimately quiet meal. Truly this restaurant is one of the most quiet ones you’ll find anywhere in a theme park, so give it a try!

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!
